The sentimental value built up over the years between you and your belongings is but a delicate bond of friendship, love and a special kind of personal nostalgia. They are a living representation of us and our pasts. They are the landmarks of the present anchoring our memories of past times. It’s no surprise that the older our belongings become the more we cling to them. And that’s the best part about it. But when the time comes to part and go our separate ways, how do we do it? That’s the part we all have to face one way or another, its letting go.
Blaming yourself for the next year or two for accidentally forgetting your leather satchel somewhere, or realizing that the little guy can no longer go on. When a leather bag reaches a point where it can literally no longer be used we can either decide to stop using it or attempt repairs. Repairing a well worn out leather bag isn’t recommended, especially if you have been using it to the point that it has began to deteriorate. The memory of them becomes more important than the future of them. And you may find that preserving those memories may be more than worth making a few of new ones.
But letting go; how do you do it and what is it that you would be letting go of? That’s the questions, isn’t it? When you really look at the whole picture, you would be letting go of your future travels together. You would be letting go of having your favorite companion alongside for the journey. But who says you must actually let go? There are other means to the ending of this story of friendship.
Me personally, I would continue using my leather bag around the house. I could use it for some important but rare collectibles. Or hang it up on the wall somewhere for memories and inspiration purposes. It would be the first and last thing I saw every day before leaving and returning home. But, I guess it comes down to the decision you make and how you look at it.
So when it comes time for you to let go, consider all the ways that you can make letting go an easy process through simply changing the way you use your leather bag.
